Scythian Funeral Cart from Alexandropol Kurgan

0

During the summer of 1856, A.E. Liutsenko reported finding the remains of a Scythian funeral cart in the kurgan. Considering its closeness to the central chamber, the archaeologist conjectured that the cart was used to bring the body of the king to the place of his burial. Unfortunately, the wooden part of it was in very poor condition, but the painting that was made on the spot shows the metal rims of the cart’s wheels. Judging by their size, one can imagine how impressive the cart was during the ceremony.
