Year of the Snake has frequently been tumultuous for Russia, – Garry Kasparov

0

The Year of the Snake has frequently been tumultuous for Russia. Revolutions in 1905 and 1917, collectivization & purges in 29, the war in 41, Stalin’s death in 53, the collapse of the Communist Bloc in 1989. Perhaps the snake in the Kremlin is due for a dramatic change in 2025…

…In 2024, the tears we have been seeing in the fabric of the world order have finally reached a critical threshold and ripped it apart. Next year, we will begin to witness fledgling movements toward a new global system. This search for a new balance will, of course, not be easy or free of obstacles. But we have a say in the direction the world takes. How this process of crystallization unfolds will depends on how clearly the West can formulate a response to the events of the last year, and a clear strategy for the future.

The free world still has a decisive economic, military, and technological advantage. The question has been and remains one of political will. Can we muster the courage to stand up to the opponents of democracy, in this pivotal moment when a new global order hangs in the balance? I hope 2025 brings renewed clarity, enthusiasm, and vigor for our shared resolution to promote the values of peace and freedom, next year and beyond.
