In an attempt to rewrite and appropriate the history of Kyiv Rus, the Muscovites have insistently portrayed Kyiv rulers as bearded men. Take a look at their portrayal of Yaroslav the Wise for example. Meanwhile, even the original stamp of Yaroslav mentioned at the beginning of that Wiki article shows him as a man without a beard but with a mustache.
Russian Academician Fedor Solntsev (1801-1892) although partially responsible for the vandalization of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, has left valuable paintings of the original frescos of the Cathedral.
