PyoTchaikovsky wrote more than 30 compositions while in Ukraine, because – “I found a feeling of peace in my soul, which I couldn’t find in Moscow and St Petersburg.”

The house in Cherkasy Oblast, where his sister Alexandra lived with her family and where Tchaikovsky loved so much to stay, had a lake with swans in it. It is believed that Tchaikovsky was inspired by that view to start composing The Swan Lake.
