The largest pre-WW1 plane – Sikorsky’s S-22 ‘Ilya Muromets’ – made its maiden flight Feb 12, 1914

Igor Sikorsky flew “Ilya Muromets” plane personally from Petersburg to his native Kyiv setting several world records. As it turns out though, the true name of the legendary Kyiv Rus’ warrior was not Muromets but Morowlin. It is yet one more example of the ways Moscow forged Kyiv’s history.
