Update May 20, 2025: “Mr. Trump had famously promised during the campaign that he would bring about peace between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours — portraying it as easy work for a master negotiator. He has since discovered it is much more difficult than he imagined, and he now says he was being “a little bit sarcastic” when he floated that timeline. Frustrated with the slow progress and Mr. Putin’s intransigence, Mr. Trump has publicly mused about walking away from the negotiations. And he made clear in his post on Monday that he was eager to pull the United States out of the discussions and move on to doing business deals with Russia. The conditions to end the war, Mr. Trump wrote, “will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of.” (New York Times)

April 5, 2023 “Former President Bill Clinton has expressed remorse over his role in negotiating a 1994 deal that resulted in Ukraine giving up its nuclear arsenal, suggesting that Russia never would have invaded its smaller neighbor if it still had nukes. “I feel a personal stake because I got them [Ukraine] to agree to give up their nuclear weapons. And none of them believe that Russia would have pulled this stunt if Ukraine still had their weapons,” Clinton told Irish broadcaster RTE in an interview that aired Tuesday. The 42nd president was referencing a landmark post-Cold War deal in which then-Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk agreed to surrender roughly 1,900 nuclear warheads in exchange for security assurances from the US and the United Kingdom, as well as a commitment from Russia to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity.” (New York Post)

“Former US president Bill Clinton has issued a shocking apology for handicapping Ukraine years before the bloody war with Russia, reported The Sun. The former Democratic leader believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Kyiv if they hadn’t given up nuclear weapons at his request.” (The Frontier Post)
